I don’t even have to start with great detail on this because we all know who Kylie Jenner is.
Kylie recently launched Kylie Skin by Kylie Jenner a couple months back. A new skin care line with pink Instagram worthy bottles, and a lot of talk behind it.
Kylie is not only one of my favorite Kardashian’s but also one of my favorite boss babes to watch. But I was extremely curious about this new launch. I was curious about this skin care line for 2 reasons. One, it’s incredibly courageous and ambitious to create a skin care line especially when your own skin is still developing and two, how would this skin care line react on black skin? Especially black skin over 30 years old.
I’m in my thirties and I’ve been following my mom’s advice about skincare since I turned 27. She always told me to use products for your face that are 10x your age and that’s what I’ve been doing for the most part.
I had been seeing mixed reviews about the collection since it was released but I hadn't really seen any bloggers or influencers of color talking about it. I’m a firm believer in testing a product no matter what it is for 2 weeks before I say anything about it, but when I ordered the complete skin kit I knew I needed more time. I opted to test the entire kit every day for 3 weeks.
Day 14 Using Kylie Skin
If you have never ordered anything from the Kardashian/Jenner's you have to move with lightening speed to place our order. I missed the initial launch but I knew I wouldn't miss the 2nd restocking of this kit. The launch was at 12:00p here in NYC.. I had the Kylie Skin website pulled up at 11:58a.. refreshed the screen at 11:59... 12:00p I had the kit in my cart and at 12:01 I was placed in line to check out. Yes you read that correctly. Shipping was fast and by the end of the week, voila! I had my hands on the Kylie Skin kit.
To start, I chose to order the complete kit because it seemed like the best value, which when you add up all the products individually, the kit is cheaper and why start a routine if you don't have all of the products. Also, each item in the kit is sold individually as well if you ever need to re-up on your favorite products.
What is in the Kylie Skin Kit:
Foaming Face Wash
Walnut Scrub
Vanilla Milk Toner
Vitamin C Serum
Face Moisturizer
Eye Cream
Walnut Face Scrub: the grains are super fine so it's less abrasive than your typical face scrub. It's also looser so it easily glides across your skin without tearing your skin. You can use this 2x a week and you would feel dry or raw .
Foaming Face Wash: Super rich and creamy in texture. Adding water to it foams it up even more. Easy to rinse off with water or a wet washcloth.
Vanilla Milk Toner: Cooling and creamy in texture. Absorbs in to your skin quickly and gives you an instant glow once it dries. My favorite product in the kit.
Vitamin C Serum: A creamy serum that adds instant brightness to your face. My 2nd favorite product in the kit.
Face Moisturizer: This moisturizer is THICK. It’s not greasy and glides over your face really nicely. My 3rd favorite product in the kit.
Eye Cream: My least favorite product in the kit. It moisturizes your eye and adds a glow, although I didn't notice a change on my lower eye section.
I decided to use the kit as I do my everyday routine so I didn’t switch up anything out of the normal. I exfoliate my face once a week, and use toner on my face a few days out the week, so I proceeded with that schedule. The only new thing from the kit that I incorporated was the eye cream, which I smear on 2 days a week.
The Kylie Skin care line is cruelty free, gluten free, vegan, paraben and sulfate free. If you read the ingredients lists you will recognize lots of fruit, vegetables, natural oils and butters, so we are already off to a great start.
On my first day of using these products, I honestly did not know what to expect. You could say I didn’t have any expectations at all. I started with the foaming face wash and although I am not a fan of the liquid to foam pump, this foam was very rich and silky. It foams instantly and you do not need a lot to cover your face. I actually used too much but a lot of product comes out so you really need about 1 full pump and a half.
After rinsing I lightly dried my face and air dried a little before I applied the vanilla milk toner which is a creamy liquid vs the traditional clear toners we are used to. Once I applied all over with a cotton round, the vanilla milk toner gives your face a soft supple look and a clear moisturized appearance. The creaminess of this toner definitely sets into your face faster than a clear liquid.
Next was the vitamin c serum and the face moisturizer. The vitamin c serum is creamy which I haven’t seen a creamy vitamin C serum before. I used 2 pumps, applied it on my face and let it set in. INSTANT BRIGHTNESS. Here is where I stopped and looked at myself….. it could not be possible that on my first attempt of using the products, I noticed a difference in my face.
So I tricked myself out of that thinking.
Day 21 Using Kylie Skin
As the days went by and I continued to use the kit, I kept reverting back to day one and to answer my own question, yes my face was adapting to the kit. My face was incredibly clear, bright, even toned and extremely moisturized. At one point during my 3 week trial, I became overly moisturized and had to rewash my face and not apply anything afterwards. I love this kit.
My Face 3 Weeks Later:
After 3 weeks of everyday use of the Kylie Skin Kit, I can honestly say this is the best my natural face has ever looked. My clear skin is perfect. So perfect that I have been going outside and even to work with my bare face. Even when I wear makeup you can still see that my skin underneath is clear and well kept. I noticed that all of Kylie’s products were creamy and as I started using them on a continual basis I realized that it’s all helping to keep and maintain the moisture in your skin.
I think for Kylie's first attempt at skin care she knocked it out the park. Launching an entire kit was a fabulous idea as it will teach anyone to use all products consistently to see results. This kit is great for teens & young adults just starting out caring for their skin all the way to adults looking to develop a skin care routine. I am really glad I purchased this kit and now that Kylie Skin has launched in Ulta Beauty stores, I will make sure I re-up on my favorite items.
