10 INGREDIENT SAUTÉED CABBAGE

I’ve always liked cabbage but it never made a major difference in my dinner. I’m a fan of stuffed cabbage, sautéed cabbage and I even love shredded red cabbage in my salads but it’s just one of those vegetables that I generally don’t think about. In the recent years I’ve been cooking food for my elderly neighbor and in those moments I found out that she loves cabbage. Now, we have cabbage often, I developed this quick and easy recipe for her than can be made in less than 45 min.

Here, I let the cabbage shine and use very few ingredients to make this fab side dish. When I decided to add ground ginger in this mix, I had no idea that it would compliment the cabbage so well. Now, I make this dish by the truckloads for not just my neighbor but myself and my family as well. It’s comforting and goes great with any meal or by itself.

10 Ingredient Sautéed Cabbage

1 head of green cabbage, cleaned and cored

1 medium size onion, peeled and thinly sliced

2 carrots, peeled and chopped

4 cloves of garlic, peeled and thinly sliced

1/2 c. of chicken or vegetable stock

your preferred cooking oil

ground ginger

salt

black pepper

butter

Peel any dead or discolored leaves off of the cabbage and throw away. On a flat surface cut the cabbage in half. Remove the large core of the cabbage on each side and then cut again in manageable quarters. Slice cabbage and place in a large bowl until needed.

In a large deep skillet over high heat add a small amount of cooking oil. Add sliced onions and garlic cooking for 5 min. When onions are slightly soft add in carrots and cook for 6 minutes. Next add in shredded cabbage and a generous amount of salt. Allow cabbage to cook down making sure to toss cabbage evenly. Add in broth and allow cabbage to simmer for 10 minutes stirring occasionally. Season with desired amounts of salt, pepper, ground ginger and lastly add in some cold butter. Toss and serve immediately.
