THE 2 THINGS I DO EVERY OTHER WEEK THAT HELP ME RELAX
We all need a moment to relax. With my 9-5 job in the hospitality industry, my website, my budding business and just tying to keep up with all the woes of adulting ( hello drop off laundry) it can be hard to relax sometimes. As much as I try to relax in bed at night before I fall off to sleep or squeeze in a quick nap on the local uptown train sometimes, I’m finding more and more that I’m personally seeking out little moments of relaxation. On any given day you can find me doing some form of work, so these 2 little moments below might be small for some but they have been helping me get through!
I Go Out To Eat By Myself- I am not one to shy away from dining alone. I actually enjoy it. Every so often I grab my MacBook and head to a new coffee shop or grab a quick bite to eat somewhere alone. Lately I’ve been in love with Sushi Para 88, a sushi restaurant by my job (which happens to be right next door to the nail salon) so when it’s time for my bi-weekly nail appointment, I now stop in beforehand for some sushi and a glass of plum wine. I usually grab the corner seat at the sushi counter, order a roll and just sit with myself by myself. These few minutes alone gives me the opportunity to not worry about anything in particular but to just sit down quietly without doing something. Here I may listen to one of my favorite podcasts or go through my non-work related emails and catch up on my favorite bloggers newsletters.
I Get My Nails Done - I love a good trip to the nail salon. I swear in another life I will be the owner of a fab nail salon, so when I take my bi- weekly trips to the salon, I use that time to relax and empty my thoughts. Everyone has their "thing" and my nails are my “thing” so I make sure to go and enjoy the full experience. I’ve been in search of the perfect manicure for a while now and found a place that gives me the manicure I’ve been craving.
Sitting there getting my nails done for close to 45 minutes allows me to not touch my iPhone and really enjoy the relaxation of what’s happening in front of me. I force myself to not think about anything work or business related and I don’t even put my headphones in as it’s nice to not try and block people out for a change, especially living my day to day life in NYC. This manicure comes with a quick hand and shoulder massage and even in 5 minutes it helps me breath and know I’m going to start fresh tomorrow.
