A YEAR OLDER, A YEAR WISER. HERE'S WHAT I DID FOR MY BIRTHDAY

It’s my birthday! My birthday was this past week (March 29th) and this year was a little different than years past...

To be completely honest, I was not in the mood to celebrate.

For me, I LOVE birthdays and every year I usually have plans but this year, although I’m ecstatic and thankful to see another year and start anew, I was in a melancholy state. The lingering dreary winter weather, my 9 -to-5 and recent mutual seperation from bae has had me in a funky mood.  So staying home in my sweats on my MacBook was all I really had planned for the day. But thank God for friends and family.

I was off on the actual day of my birthday so I spent the day with my mom. We very rarely have a day off together so my mom and I took advantage and headed to dinner at Flex Mussels. If you are a mussel lover head here ASAP. There are so many flavorful broths to choose from to accompany your mussels, we had a great time slurping the bisque (lobster, brandy, tomato & cream) and the funghi mussels ( wild mushrooms, double smoked bacon, garlic, cream, rosemary) And please, order the doughnuts for dessert. They have a selection of different doughnut fillings accompanied by a vanilla bean sauce. We ordered 2 thinking we were full but the doughnuts were so amazing, we ordered 2 more. -yikes!- Flex Mussels, 174 East 82nd Street, New York, N.Y. 10028

I had to work the weekend of my birthday but I got off early and met my friends for unlimited sushi, 3 bottles of wine and lots of girl time at Sushi Para 88. I have a group of girl friends that we’ve been friends literally since grade school. We are all on different paths as career professionals and moms, but we talk all day long in our group chat and we commit to making time once a month to meet up and spill the tea face to face.  Sushi Para 88, 212 West 14th Street, New York, N.Y. 10011

My other best friend was on vacation during my birthday but she made sure to send me some fab e-gifts while she was away. My phone was buzzing all day with gift alerts and happy birthdays. (Real thug tears)

I usually have a different birthday cake every year and this year was no different. I decided to pick up a rainbow explosion cake from Flourshop, the new bakery in SoHo that has been taking Instagram by storm recently. I purchased the mini rainbow explosion cake and it was just enough cake to celebrate my day.  FlourShop, 177 Lafayette Street, New York, N.Y. 10013

I’m so thankful for my friends and family for helping make my day and my weekend special even though I wasn’t up for it initially. We always need those individuals in our life to help us celebrate us!

Here’s to a new year of exploring, working, growing and of course, eating fabulously.
