MY FAVORITE PODCASTS
I LOVE podcasts. In the times where everyone has a smartphone and a laptop, podcasts are flourishing. You can find a podcasts for just about everything these days right down to where Richard Simmons has been hiding. I started listening to podcasts a few years back and have grown to really look forward to new episodes from some of my favorite people. I throw my headphones in and refresh the feed on my iPhone during my commute to work or at home and listen to a variety of podcasts from chefs, business owners and I even get in some church when I need it. Here are just a few of my favorite podcasts.
Eater Upsell - being in the restaurant industry I read Eater.com at the start of my day to keep up with the ever changing restaurant scene. I started listening to their weekly podcast with chef's, restauranteurs and popular food people and instantly became a regular listener. Check out some of my favorite interviews with Chef Wolfgang Puck, the late Anthony Bourdain, Chef JJ Johnson and more.
The Joe Budden Podcast - If you have not heard of The Joe Budden podcast you have been living under a rock. I was always a fan of Joe Budden as a rapper, but now I love him even more as a media guy. He’s his normal grumpy self talking about music, influence, relationships and more with his friends in a super relaxed atmosphere.
The Read - I came across The Read with Kid Fury and Crissle a few years ago via a recommendation from a friend and have been an avid listener ever since. With everything ranging from pop culture, politics and personal "reads" Kid Fury and Crissle talk about everything we are thinking in our heads. I have to be conscious of laughing out loud whenever I listen to The Read while on my commute but I never miss a episode. Whenever I'm having a bad week, The Read always provides me with a extremely good laugh.
Myleik Teele - I started following Myleik Teele, the founder and CEO of Curlbox a few years back on social media. I love how open she is about working hard, owning a successful company, becoming a new mom and staying fabulous in the midst of it all. I started listening to her podcast and Im HOOKED on the candid advice she gives her listeners. From love to business to handling your finances and even going to therapy, Myleik will help get your life together in a fabulous way.
Joel Osteen & Creflo Dollar - Everyone needs the word and some uplifting messages. Creflo Dollar and Joel Osteen are both of my favorite pastors and I listen to them when I need to get centered. One of Creflo Dollar's podcasts, "Defeating Emotional Turmoil" even helped me when my father passed unexpectedly a few years ago. Along with TD Jakes, these 3 pastors podcasts put my mind in focus whenever I need to be leveled out and reassured in my faith.
Brutally Honest - Karlie Hustle is the epitome of dope. I interviewed her on the blog a few years back and I’m still obsessed to this day. Karlie had this brilliant idea to create a podcast talking about a range of issues including becoming a mom in the workplace, daddy issues, white privilege, and her newest battle, surviving breast cancer… all in 20 minutes. It’s raw, it’s straight from the hip and honestly it’s exactly what we are all thinking and discussing.
How I Built This w. Guy Raz - I’ve always wanted to be an entrepreneur and I love learning how people built their businesses from the ground up. I also love an incredibly unconventional success story so when I discovered NPR’s How I Built This podcast I hit save immediately. I’ve learned and gained so much inspiration from some of my favorite businesses and brands including the creators of Warby Parker, Sarah Blakely of SPANX, and Christina Tsoi of Milk Bar.
Hard Or Soft Podcast - In a time of super crazy relationship goals, I like to learn and understand all types of relationships. I’m obviously always looking at things from a female standpoint but I do enjoy learning and hearing from the man’s point of view. The Hard or Soft podcast is a sex based podcast with 2 popular social media hosts, which happen to be men. Aside from sex, they get into men’s thoughts, feelings and emotions from a variety of topics including how men deal with self esteem, masculinity and more.
The Dave Chang Show - Chef Dave Chang is one of my favorite chefs and in the last few months, I’ve circled back to learn more about him, his restaurants, his Momofuku Empire and more. He explains how his restaurants are doing, includes chefs, special guests and even his key staff members.
Rap Radar Podcast - I get a lot of inspiration from rappers and their life stories so the Rap Radar podcast is perfect for when I need a boost of some inspo. The podcast plays on Tidal but you can also watch the video format on Youtube. Some of my favorite interviews include Swizz Beatz, Jay-Z, Jim Jones and 2 Chainz.
